A little bit of history

Originally the Wellard hospital south of Perth, the historic Taylor St Quarters building was dismantled and sent by boat around the Capes of Western Australia in 1931 to house the Esperance Hospital. When a new hospital was built for the town in the ‘60s, the building was used as a Nurses Quarters. Eventually, it was relocated to its’ current resting place on the shores of Esperance Bay in the 1980s to become a much-beloved Tearoom.

In July 2017, the beautiful TSQ building was taken under the wing of the current owner, Jane Coole, along with her daughter Sophie, a baker and partner Dean, a renowned chef. With the help of their extended family and armed with ideas and no shortage of elbow grease, they gave the old quarters a much-needed facelift. Then, early in August, Taylor St Quarters gracefully emerged – a family-owned and ran restaurant specialising in contemporary Australian Cuisine.

Inspired by the rugged coastline and rich agricultural heritage of Esperance, the TSQ menu evolves with the seasons.
